At Antibiogo, we believe that tackling antimicrobial resistance starts with training the people on the front line: laboratory professionals. The app was developed to help laboratory technicians read and interpret antimicrobial susceptibility tests, including where a microbiologist is not available on site.

We also believe that the most useful training stays close to the laboratory bench. With this in mind, we have developed free online modules that learners can complete at their own pace. They help users learn how to use Antibiogo, understand the technology behind it and, above all, master the good practices needed to prepare a susceptibility test before reading it with the app.

Demonstrations, practical scenarios, exercises and quizzes support learning throughout the pathway.

Getting started with Antibiogo

The Antibiogo Basics pathway guides laboratory professionals through the app and how to use it. It includes four modules:

• “Introduction to Antibiogo” introduces the app and the main steps in using it
• “Preparing for AST Photo Requirements and Photo Booth Setup” explains how to prepare for taking a photo with Antibiogo
• “Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing: Getting it Right and Read it with Antibiogo!” reviews the steps involved in performing and reading a susceptibility test, then interpreting it with Antibiogo
• “How to perform Quality Control for AST” covers the principles and practice of quality control for susceptibility testing.

The module on good practices in susceptibility testing combines theory, demonstrations, exercises and quizzes. Although Antibiogo helps users interpret a susceptibility test, the quality of the result depends first on the quality of the test performed in the laboratory.

Going further: understanding how Antibiogo works

The pathway also includes “Antibiogo in depth: Image Analysis Program & Expert System” for users who want to better understand how the app works and the main components involved in analysing and interpreting susceptibility tests.

Modules updated to reflect the app and scientific guidelines

The “Introduction to Antibiogo” module has been updated to reflect changes to the app, including the phone specifications required to use it. It now features a new demonstration video showing the current functionalities, from creating a susceptibility test to generating its results.

Two other modules (“Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing: Getting it Right and Read it with Antibiogo!” and “Antibiogo in depth: Image Analysis Program & Expert System”) have been updated to reflect changes to EUCAST and CLSI guidelines.

These updates help ensure that users learn from content aligned with the app and the scientific guidelines it incorporates.
